Over time, you may find that the wallpaper is yellowing, too. After some time, it may become necessary to replace your wallpaper, but in most instances, you can clean the wallpaper well enough to keep it looking good for years to come. From one mark to cleaning the entire wallpaper wall, the following are some basic wallpaper maintenance tips you can use.
Manufacturer First
Every type of wallpaper is unique. It is always best to refer to your wallpaper manufacturer's instructions before you attempt to clean the wallpaper in any way. For example, fabric based wall coverings are different from cleaning paper based wallpaper. The biggest problem is with the possibility of ripping or tearing part of the paper during the cleansing process. You also do not want to rub so hard that the wallpaper is simply worn away. Therefore, the first step is to always know what the manufacturer requires. If you are unsure, check with the company online, or look for information on their particular brand from your retailer.
Tips To Consider
The following are some ways to clean wallpaper but again they will not be appropriate for all forms of wallpaper. Only use them if you are sure that they will not cause damage to the paper itself.
It is best to try to remove the dirt with plain water first. Using a damp towel try to blot away the dirt using soft, light motions.
If this does not work, you may be able to use a small amount of dish detergent or another form of mild detergent. This is the best route to take if you are looking to cleanse the entire wall.
Never put too much water onto the wallpaper. Saturating the wallpaper will cause the adhesive to loosen which could lead to the wallpaper starting to break away from the wall.
You may want to consider the porous cleaning pads on how the market. They work well at gently removing markings and scruff marks without doing any damage to the paper.
You can also purchase wallpaper cleaner. This is something that you want to do if you are in need of cleaning the entire wallpaper in a larger area. You can find it wherever wallpaper is sold or online.
Wallpaper maintenance is a big project since you do need to ensure that you do not damage the wallpaper during the process. Most of the time, you can remove the debris from the wallpaper, especially if you invest some extra time in doing so.
